Presbyopia is an age-related condition that occurs when the eye cannot focus clearly, making close-up objects look blurred. Presbyopia happens naturally with age. It usually begins around age 40, even for people who have never experienced vision problems in the past.
Common symptoms of presbyopia include:
Blurred vision up close
Needing to hold objects farther away to see them clearly
Eyestrain (when eyes feel tired)
Headaches (especially after close-up tasks, such as reading)
People with presbyopia might have difficulty seeing:
Books
Menu items, especially in dim light
Ingredient lists
Text messages, photos, or videos on a phone
Use a flashlight to read in low-light situations
Start wearing over-the-counter reading glasses
Increase text size on your phone or computer
Hold reading materials farther away or at arm's length
